Mixed media and Multi-media artist
I grew up primarily in the state of Pennsylvania and currently live in Upper Bucks County, PA with my husband, twin boys, dog, and cat. I am a former teacher of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing and worked in public schools for 13 years. I was also a certified educational interpreter for the Deaf while I was teaching and am still relatively fluent in American Sign Language. I now work part-time as a swim instructor. I love the water and visiting lakes, rivers, or the ocean is one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy nature and the beauty of everyday life. I am often found taking pictures to use as reference from my car. It's not unusual for me to pull over when I see a particularly beautiful sky or landscape to photograph to use later in my art.
I am a multimedia and mixed media mostly self-taught artist. I did not attend art school though I know many artists who did. I began drawing and painting at the age of 40. I became interested in visual art because one of my twin boys loved to draw from the time he could hold a crayon. I took him to a community drawing class for kids, and due to my son being neurodivergent, the instructor allowed me to stay in the room. While in the class, the instructor encouraged me to draw along with everyone. From that point on I was hooked. I started by drawing with graphite and charcoal, moved on to colored pencil drawing, and eventually moved to painting in water media.
I prefer painting with watercolors and acrylics but I've also started adding collage elements to my abstract pieces. I am also starting to work with cold wax and oils along with water miscible oil paints.
I would consider myself a "style hopper" (as I've heard artist and YouTuber Mira Byler say) because I enjoy everything from realism to abstract art.
